Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) Recognized as a Top Employer in B.C.

Feb 18, 2021

Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) has been named as one of BC’s Top 100 Employers for 2021.

“We’re proud to receive this recognition,” said Geoff Dickson, Victoria Airport Authority President and CEO.  “Being recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers is a direct reflection of the dedication and commitment of the entire VAA team.  When considering the incredible challenges we’ve faced and collectively worked through this past year, this recognition is valued.”

Some of the reasons, VAA was selected as one BC’s Top Employers include:

  • For over nine years, VAA has organized a Healthy Workplace Month with a variety of activities to promote health behaviours including flu shots, massages, an annual health and wellness challenge, lunch and learns, presentations by registered dieticians and wellness practitioners, and quarterly Wellness Matters newsletters.
  • VAA encourages its employees to get involved in the community, offering matching charitable contributions (up to $5,000) and seeking employee feedback on initiatives to support – employees may also apply for volunteer time off.
  • VAA supports employees who are new parents with maternity and parental leave top-up payments, to 100 per cent of salary for up to sixteen weeks.

Now in its 16th year, BC's Top Employers is a special designation that recognizes the British Columbia employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Employers throughout British Columbia were evaluated by the editors at Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in British Columbia; employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.

The official magazine announcing this year's winners was published in a special edition of the Vancouver Sun (VAA is featured on page 13).

VAA is also featured on a dedicated page on the BC Top 100 Employers website, which shows a full list of the winners for 2021.
