Victoria Airport Authority Announces New Directors, Board Executive

The Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) announced a number of changes to its Board of Directors.

The Board Executive for 2018 are:

Eric J. Donald              Board Chair
Gordon Safarik           Board Vice-Chair and Chair, Airport Consultative Committee
Marilyn Loveless        Board Secretary and Chair, Governance Committee
Cathie Ounsted          Chair, Audit and Finance Committee
Rod Dewar                   Chair, Planning and Development Committee

VAA welcomed two new Board members effective January 1, 2018:

Brenda Nunns Shoemaker joins the VAA representing the District of North Saanich.  Ms. Nunns Shoemaker has been a resident of North Saanich for 22 years after moving from Ottawa where she was Vice-President of the Ottawa General Hospital and President of the Ottawa General Hospital Foundation.  Prior to that, she was Vice-President at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.  She has held positions on many local and national boards and councils, often as Chair, in the fields of health, education and athletics.  Past board positions include the Capital Health Region, Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island (formerly the Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children), North Saanich Parks Commission and Vancouver Island Health Authority. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation as its Governance Chair. She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for her community service.

“Having long admired the Victoria Airport Authority, I hope to contribute to its continued progress in any way I can,” says Nunns Shoemaker.

Charles Lovallo joins the VAA representing the Town of Sidney. Mr. Lovallo was the founder and CEO of Angel Flight of BC, a non-profit organization of volunteer pilots who provide free air transportation to ambulatory cancer patients requiring travel to treatment centres.  He is President of CRI Business Solutions, a private consulting firm specializing in all aspects of business management, and Manager of the Themis School of Security Training.  Mr. Lovallo is past President and Chair of Innovative Solutions Now Inc., a biofuels research and development company.  He has held senior positions within Revenue Canada - Customs and Border Services in the areas of Information Technology, Revenue, HR Management and Taxation. 

Mr. Lovallo is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his work in business continuity and emergency management, and he has assisted in the development of a National Risk Assessment Program.

“I look forward to being part of the VAA.  I have a great love of aviation and a strong desire to give back to the community,” says Lovallo.
