Record Year for Victoria International Airport

Jan 15, 2014

Victoria International Airport saw record passenger numbers for 2013, with 1,556,960 passengers surpassing the previous high of 1,538,417 in 2008. For the year, passengers increased 3.4% over 2012.

The primary drivers for the growth were the stronger Canadian economy, a rebound in American visitors and the introduction of new WestJet Encore service.

“2013 has been an extraordinary year for Victoria International Airport,” said Geoff Dickson, Victoria Airport Authority President and CEO. “Not only did we see record numbers, we were fortunate to be recognized on a global scale by winning Airport Council International’s award for service quality as well as their Environmental Mitigation award for our Reay Creek restoration project. We were pleased also to have completed our 9.3 kilometer multi-use bike and walking path around the airport, and terminal renovations are well underway with Spinnakers opening at the end of the month.”
