Victoria Airport Authority Appoints New Board Member

The Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) is pleased to announce that Suromitra Sanatani has been appointed to the Board of Directors effective February 1, 2013.

Ms. Sanatani began her career in litigation before transitioning from the practice of law to senior corporate positions in the non-profit, public and private sectors. Serving as Strategic Counsel for Heenan Blaikie LLP, Ms. Sanatani led First Nations consultations around the province. She also worked with a major financial institution in the area of social finance.

In her former role as Vice-President, Corporate and Government Relations, Ms. Sanatani played a pivotal role in establishing Partnerships BC, a Crown agency specializing in public-private partnerships. During that time, she headed up the pan-Canadian public-private partnership initiative which involved the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Through her role as the Vice-President, Canadian Federation of Independent Business (BC and Yukon), Ms. Sanatani demonstrated a proven track record in representing the interests of small and medium-sized businesses locally, provincially and nationally.

In keeping with VAA’s corporate values, Ms. Sanatani is passionate about driving change within an organization that in turn benefits the social, cultural and economic development of society. Active in the community, she is Vice-Chair of the Royal BC Museum and a Director of the Telus Victoria Community Board. Ms. Sanatani also sits on the national panel for Responsible Conduct of Research. Past experience includes service as a council member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, as well as the Director of Industry Training Authority.
