A Record June for Victoria International Airport as Traffic Increases 10%

Victoria International Airport (YYJ), June has broken all previous June data records and has become the busiest June ever in airport history.
“We’ve achieved a record breaking June,” said Geoff Dickson, Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) President and CEO. “With 136,726 passengers we have surpassed our previous June record of 132,550 passengers in June 2008. This represents a 10% growth over June 2012 and brings year-to-date traffic growth up to 2.9%. Utilization of some larger aircraft, a rebound of Transborder traffic , and new entrant WestJet Encore has all contributed to the surge in growth.”
Accommodating the growing number of passengers and making the airport as customer-friendly and easy to use as possible is the catalyst for an $8.1 million airport improvements project that is well underway. The full terminal improvement project will see the expansion of the pre-board security screening area into the present retail space; a new food area on the west side of the lower passenger departure lounge; a new retail store on the east side; a central elevator, stair and escalator area added on to the southeast corner of the terminal; and new furnishings in the upper passenger departure lounge.
Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2014.
