Victoria International Airport announces new Shopping and Dining Venues
Dec 5, 2012
A new post-security food and beverage program and entirely new retail program was announced today by the Victoria Airport Authority (VAA).
The new concessions are part of an $8.1 million dollar Airport Improvement Program that includes major changes to dining and shopping choices, an expansion of the pre-board security screening checkpoint, a new central circulation core for the elevator, escalators, and stairs and enhancements to the Upper Passenger Departure Lounge.
Eurest Dining Services (a member of Compass Group Canada) successfully secured the 10-year concession agreement to provide food and beverage concessions at the Victoria International Airport. Success of the pre-security food and beverage program with national brands White Spot, Starbucks, and Tim Hortons will be complemented by iconic local favourite Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub post-security. A new 1,400 (135 m2) square foot Spinnakers in the Lower Passenger Departure Lounge will feature full service sit down options, a bar/lounge area, and unique grab-and-go and retail purchase options.
LS travel retail North America was the successful proponent of a 7-year opportunity to provide two brand-new retail stores. Breakwater Boutique, an open concept store will offer a tailored selection of local apparel and accessories, gifts and toys and convenience items. Post-security, Harbourwalk Shops & Duty Free will showcase unique concepts that will bring to life the essence of Victoria. Designed especially for Victoria International Airport, this store will focus on taking the stress out of the travellers by offering an environment anchored by high quality apparel and fashion accessories from Canadian favourites Sitka, Tilley Endurables and Cabrelli, as well as gourmet local products, souvenirs, and an expansive duty free offer.
Geoff Dickson, Victoria Airport Authority President and CEO said, “We sent a challenge to the market to create food and beverage and retail concepts that were a much greater representation of Victoria. Both of our successful proponents demonstrated they understood that vision and we are delighted to welcome these exciting new offerings.”
Construction related to the Airport Improvements Project begins today and is expected to take 18 months to complete. Spinnakers and the new Retail venues are expected to Summer and Fall 2013 respectively.
