Victoria's 2nd 'Chopper Challenge' Helicopter Pull for United Way

Oct 7, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUBJECT:  VICTORIA’S 2nd ‘CHOPPER CHALLENGE’  HELICOPTER  PULL  FOR  UNITED  WAY

Back by popular demand, the Victoria Airport Authority and 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron are once again joining forces to host Victoria’s second ‘Chopper Challenge’ to raise money and awareness for the United Way of Greater Victoria and the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign – United Way (GCWCC-UW).

Airport tenants, members of the Greater Victoria Defence Team, GCWCC-UW representatives and United Way representatives have been invited to flex their muscles for a good cause by putting together a team of 10 people, raising funds, and participating in this fun and grueling event.  Teams will compete to be the fastest team to pull a 21,000 lb. CH-124 Sea King helicopter 75 feet across the tarmac.  All proceeds will go to support local programs funded by the GCWCC-UW and the United Way of Greater Victoria.

There will be prizes, raffle draws, team photo ops, and a barbecue for the participants and guests, proudly sponsored by Save On Foods.  The Jenner Chevrolet rolling BBQ flame truck will be on site.  Jack Knox of the Victoria Times Colonist will be the guest presenter for the United Way, helping to kick off the event.

Date:                     Saturday,   October 16, 2010
Kickoff:                 2:00 PM
Location:              443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron - Main Hangar
(on Kittyhawk Road -  West Camp - Victoria International Airport)

This year the United Way’s goal is to raise $6.2 Million to support family and community well-being; to strengthen community-based services for mental health and addictions; and to help develop housing solutions for the region’s many homeless, low-income and working poor.
