VAA receives local community Newsmaker Award

The Victoria Airport Authority was honoured at the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Crystal Awards for Business Excellence April 15, 2009 with the Newsmaker of the Year - 2008 award.
Significant developments at the Victoria International Airport have lead to the Victoria Airport Authority being selected as the Newsmaker of the Year.
Stories on development at the Victoria International Airport appeared in various media throughout the year. The Victoria Airport Authority was particularly singled out for its favourable handling of the airport's operations, business developments and community improvements in 2008.
Some of the developments included the construction of a 2.5-kilometer bike/walking path providing a safe recreational facility between Patricia Bay and Sidney and land developments such as Slegg Lumber's new wall panel production plant on the airport, which will bring 50 new jobs to the peninsula.
The Airport Authority was also lauded for its excellent management of winter operations during the Christmas winter storm. Winter weather hung over the region for the better part of two weeks. Throughout that time, airport operations continued without incident.
Most recently, the Victoria Airport Authority has been in the news for its new runway extension project. The extension will allow direct air service to London, England, which will have significant tourist and business economic generation.
