New Public Art for Airport Terminal Building Project

The Board of Directors of the Victoria Airport Authority are very pleased to announce the commission of two new public art pieces for the Airport's Terminal Building Expansion Project. The response to our "Call to Artists" last February was tremendous. The works in the final stage of the competition was of such high caliber that the Board determined to select two artworks rather than one.
The winners were officially announced yesterday afternoon at a reception held at the airport. Illarion Gallant was selected to create an outdoor sculpture titled, "Bouquet of Memories" for the outside of the Departures Plaza area and Thomas Mercer and Edward Schaefer of Mercer & Schaefer Glasstudios will affix panels of hand blown stained glass from Germany to the interior glass wall of the Departures Check-in area.
The completion of the commissioned artworks is anticipated to coincide with the completion of the Terminal Building Expansion Project in May 2006.
