Victoria Airport Authority Officially Opens Airside Operations Centre (AOC)

May 12, 2010

The Victoria Airport Authority Board of Directors were joined by Mayor Alice Finall and Councillor Peter Chandler from the District of North Saanich and Councillors Steve Price, Jeanette Hughes and Kenny Podmore from the Town of Sidney to officially open the Victoria Airport Authority's (VAA) Airside Operations Centre.

The 2,252 M2 building designed by Chang Holovsky Architects brings together airport operations staff and fire fighters for improved effectiveness and efficiency.

Durwest Construction Management Ltd. was responsible for the on time and on budget delivery of the development.

The $9.7 million cost was funded entirely from airport revenues without financial support from any level of government.

The new AOC replaces a number of WW II vintage buildings, and incorporates important seismic and fire protection for the critical emergency response and heavy mobile equipment.

The building also incorporates a geothermal heating and cooling system to help reduce VAA's environmental footprint.

Richard Paquette, VAA President and CEO, commented, "Our new AOC is a great facility, that will servce our Airport and our community well for the foreseeable future."
